Health And Safety For Your Baby

Starting a family is one of the most wonderful, life changing experiences you could ever imagine. It will be beautiful, and stressful. It will be awe inspiring and it will be graphic.

As soon as you know a baby is on the way, excitement kicks in and all the wonderful possibilities and plans that lie ahead. Pretty soon after that comes the worry that something will go wrong and you take every precaution you can to ensure this doesn’t happen.

Shopping for your new baby will throw up all sorts of gadgets and gizmos for your baby, from the cute and cuddly to the practical and plastic. There are many things that you can buy these days for your baby that will assist in providing peace of mind to the parents.

Baby monitors have become a must have in every nursery. It used to be the thing that babies slept in the same room as their parents, at least until they were sleeping through the night. It meant that parents could keep an eye on their babies through the night and feeding and changing would be easier and less likely to disturb the rest of the household.

However, homes have definitely got smaller and the likelihood of having enough room for a cot in the main bedroom is pretty slim. On top of that, the benefits of having a child in the same room as the parents have been questioned.

A baby can now go straight into a nursery from birth and any snuffles, illnesses or tears can not only be heard on a baby monitor but seen also. Baby monitors have moved on the stage of incorporating small but clear cameras. They are also a lot more ‘nursery’ friendly, coming in different colours and designs to fit in with the decor of the room.

This way, a baby can be settled straight into its own room but the parents have as much peace of mind as if the baby was beside them. Baby monitors come with just audio capabilities or visual and audio and mean that the receiver can be transported anywhere in the house or garden without you having to worry about your baby.

Other safety features also include thermometers. These have advanced to be as accurate as the ones used in hospitals and as babies are unable to regulate their own temperature and an unfavourable temperature can be a catalyst for making a baby ill, then this is one product that you will find very useful.

Room and water thermometers are also a good idea to ensure the health, safety and comfort of your baby but it is not until baby is on the move that you will require more and more safety equipment.

Stair gates are, in my opinion, one of the most wonderful inventions. Keeping a baby out of the bathroom, kitchen of off the stairs with a gate means that you can move freely around the house without worrying about them getting somewhere dangerous.

Young children very quickly get used to these gates and usually just accept that they lead to an area that they can’t get to. It’s the same with cupboard catches. Baby proofing your house completely without these features is impossible. Not everything can be moved up to eye level, out of babies reach, so the easiest thing to do is to continue keeping your household items where you always have and putting catches on the doors to stop the baby touching anything dangerous or important.
